Challenging Arts & Crafts

a floral blue pillowcase

The main fabric used here was a leftover of the fabric I used to cover the headboard of our blue guest bedroom (below photo) ...it´s from my  blog called  Parade of Pillowcases.

I  make and collect pillowcases, below are so far what I have gathered. I  use various methods to make and grow my collection... some of the white ones were either crocheted, embroidered and quilted. Others were flea market finds.

The blue pillow was intentionally made as a Mother´s Day gift to my mom in-law a few years back when she had a blue sofa. The strips that framed the quilted center came from an english stripe fabric from a curtain shop.

I cut the blue stripe part and used 4 strips to make the border for the quilted center. I have adapted the quilted design from Ako´s Lone Star Quilt and used it here..

I think, the overall effect of the blue fabric plus the floral strips that framed the center came out nicely. What do you think?

I could see that mom in -law liked and appreciated it for she proudly displayed it on her sofa for a long time... now that she has a new sofa in grey, I should think of another project to suit the new sofa color...

I hope that the blue pillowcase inspired you...

As usual,  it´s a gray in gray weather today in Vienna!!!
At least the hyacinth´s sooner blooming gives me a bit of consolation. Oh my... Spring where art thou?

Hope your Friday is wonderful!

in betweens......

This blanket is my actual project at the moment.. I ordered pastel colors but  I wasn´t satisfied with the results when the grannies have been crocheted. The overall outlook really had been different as what I hoped for , so I tried  adding color variations.. I´m in the process of finishing up this project in a few more days so I could show more of the complete blanket.

The holidays had been a busy one at home, especially spending Christmas in the hospital when Mom in-law was confined...  We didn´t really celebrate that much, it is difficult when all our heads are  somewhere.. ....

...and in betweens, I have to do my household chores, walking mom in-laws dog named Lily, a chihuahua aged 3, such a lovely dog!!! Although I was having a hard time in the beginning because of the litters, now she´s fine and would love to take the walk...

...and in betweens, I take my morning walk, We live in the outskirts of Vienna and I love the area because of the greenfields and the fresher air... you can feel as if you are along the countryside.

It was not long ago that we´ve had snow. We are lucky at the moment for it is unusual to have plus temperatures in midwinter. When I took the walk today morning, we´ve had 5°C.

Armed with a playlist from Jason Mraz´s album Love, it was a great walk and I felt refreshed and tanked more energy for the next multi tasking.....

Enjoy your day wherever you may be!

"15 Süße Minuten " (15 sweet minutes)

Yeah, 15 Süße Minuten...it´s a Bistro, Cafe and Bakery in one. I just love this place!!! Located in the 4th District of Vienna, this is one of my fave Cafes in town. They have the best Poppyseed cheesecake that is so scrumptious..... it´s really heaven!

Just a few blocks from my work not so far away from the Belvedere Palace, I love to come here whenever the time allows me and take away some sweets...They also have light snacks and various soups that you could order for lunch or for tea.

You only need to have 15 sweet minutes of your time to be able to taste one of  the best pâttisseries in town.

Once inside, you´ll feel relaxed in the modern and friendly atmosphere

Since I´m always short of time for lunch break ( I only have 30 minutes),  I wouldn´t go out of this Café without bringing some of my favourite poppyseed cheesecake for my afternoon merienda in the office..

And while I sip a cup of Nespresso , I enjoy each and every tidbits of the poppyseeds in this cheesecake while looking at the wonderful and picturesque view of the Belvedere Palace from my office window.

So if you happen to visit Vienna... it´s located at Favoriten Strasse 45, 4th District just a few steps from Vienna´s most modern and biggest Rail Station called Hauptbahnhof Wien...

Hoping you´re enjoying your Sunday!

from fabric scraps to table napkins

One of the things that I would really love to collect is fabric... I have lots, lots of them that I store or shall I say hoard...I buy them in advance in anticipation that I will make something out of them..

I´m a spontaneous crafter, the moment an idea comes up, I quickly gather my materials and start to work. I make a lot of projects for my home, so I start by searching for the right colors from my stash... then a project is born..

One of  the ideas is to make these napkins from a rose printed cotton fabric. I first washed the fabric before cutting it to its size to be on the safe side.. I made 6 pieces, finished sizes of which are 40 cm x 40 cm. I double folded the borders, tucked-in the corners and with the sewing machine it´s quickly done with a running stitch.

I love to use these napkins on mismatched plates....the rose fabric design picks-up the colors of the plates above.

Happy Weekend!
