Challenging Arts & Crafts

habaneros and the red onions

I´m an avid fan of container gardening... all the veggies I plant are located on the top terrace. I couldn´t plant any edible ones in my backyard because the slugs damage all leaves they can eat especially after the rain. My container veggies and salads are safer on the top terrace.

Yesterday, after a biking tour,  I went back to the fields to get some more white onions but nothing was left behind. It can be that some people from our area might have come and got them already..

What was left were the red onions located on the outer edge of the area... the tractor  missed them during the harvest and the farmers wouldn´t care to gather them manually because it´s more time consuming and labor intensive.

...  and so, I picked them up like "gold nuggets" until my bag was full, went home, cleaned them and hang some for drying.

We will surely have plenty of red onions to consume in the next few weeks. And mind you....red onions cost double the price of the white ones. They are more aromatic and mild in taste.

Habanero, is the chili from Mexico planted in a container, I harvested some of the red ones yesterday...This is such a hot pepper I would never ever have thought..Hubby didn´t know that it´s that hot and tried a bite,, OMG, it´s like a "doomsday" as if " the world was collapsing  on him" he said....he
rushed to the bathroom and drank plenty of water.... too late, my fault, I forgot to warn him! LOL!

The one container below holds the pointed pepper, I don´t know what the real name is, but these ones are guaranteed to be mild and sweet just like the bell pepper... I´m going to wait til they all become red.

Happy Sunday to all!

Thank you for reading this blog!

the green bag and the suede shoes

I saw these olive green yarn and I immediately fell in love with its color. It´s the yarn color of the Octoberfest ... everyone celebrating this feast is wearing alpine folkloric and mostly with red or green.

And so I thought I would make something out of them , I was lucky to have bought them... because they were on sale and half the original price!!! That triggered my excitement at 50% off!!!

And so, I grabbed a couple of packages including the white one.We love special offers don´t we?

Well, I just had a thought on what I´ll do with it.. and so I was playing with the hook to see what I´d come up with, which project can be taken and can be done while in the subway going to and from work.

......and my concept was to make a tote bag in granny squares, for my office lunch... something not to big and not to small..

I lined it with a flower printed cotton fabric that are normally used for "dirndl", a folkloric dress worn by women in the alpine region of Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

So, i think the lining fabric goes well with my theme... there is a contrast and the wooden handles are just fitting well to the color both in and outside of the bag.

The wooden handles came from Manila, I bought them in a shopping mall in Divisoria while I was visiting my family a couple of years back. The shop especializes in bag accessories and they are really just a fraction of a cost..

I think this bag is groovy enough to be worn with a pair of blue jeans and it is just a coincidence....

......that I happen to have a pair of  green suede shoes.

Perfect!

The Castle - Burg Kreuzenstein in Austria

Top photo :Bwag

It will only take you 15 minutes to reach this castle from the City of Vienna.. located in Leobendorf, Lower Austria, this castle attracts many visitors..tourists and locals alike.

I´ve been here 4 times and the last was about 2 weeks ago when german relatives visited us from Bavaria.

This  Middle Age castle erected around the 12th Century was once owned by the Habsburg ....and  was later burned down  by the swedish Army before they left Austria in 1645.

Could you imagine that what was left of the original castle was only the ruins?

While we made the tour inside, I´ve seen the castle depicted in one of the sketches  as completely burned down, just a small portion of the wall remained , nothing else.

According to history and what our tour guide explained, a rich owner  Count Wilzcek who got the property  rebuilt the whole castle from the ruins and used materials gathered on the burned site...

All furnitures have been gathered from all over Europe and are now part of the showcase for tourists visiting the castle, as if they have always been there originally.

The Castle was rebuilt within a period of 30 years and was reopened to the public early 20th Century.

A lot of Hollywood people use this castle for their location shooting... i.e Nicholas Cage is one of those..

I hope you have enjoyed what you´ve seen  here... If
you´re thinking of visiting Vienna, don´t forget to include this one in your list..

......Have a great day everyone!
